Energy and Climate Questions to the Mayor

March 2012: This month the Mayor has been asked questions in relation to:

Climate change data for the Mayor’s energy strategy; London & Quadrant homes RE:NEW delivery; air quality around new energy from waste schemes in London (1, 2 and 3); borough roll out of RE:NEW; an update on RE:NEW; asking the Mayor whether he would support the Energy Revolution Campaign; the use of heat pumps on Crossrail actions the Mayor will take to achieve the targetst in his Climate change strategy; progress of the Mayor’s Low Carbon Employment and Skills Programme; the amount of funding levered in by RE:NEW from the CERT programme;  Mayoral action on the Green Deal; an update on London’s Environment StrategyLWaRB work on waste infrastructureWaste infrastructure investmentLondon Waste & Recycling BoardRE:NEW and Fuel PovertyRE:NEW funding from Decent Homes (1); and RE:NEW funding from Decent Homes (2).

London Low Carbon Skills and Employment project

An outline paper for the Low Carbon Skills and Employment ESF Project is available along with a Investment Decision application
“The purpose of this paper is to seek agreement for the GLA to provide £484,000 to be matched £:£ by ESF [European Social Fund] to deliver either [sic] a £968,000 Low Carbon Skills and Employment project. The project will aim to identify suitable job opportunities arising from the growth in the low carbon economy in London and to support workless Londoners into sustained employment for a minimum of 52 out of 64 weeks in this sector.”
A more detailed Concept Paper is also provided which highlights that this “project builds upon the Retrofit Employer Accord Pilot project and aims to maximise opportunities arising from the RE:FIT, RE:NEW programmes as well as growth across the Low Carbon sector.”

Sainburys’ ‘Carbon Academy’ to train 20,000 people by 2020

16 May 2011: Sainsbury’s is to launch a new initiative that will help revolutionise the way in which the company manages its carbon footprint. The Sainsbury’s Carbon Academy will provide environmental training to 20,000 people by 2020. Stores that have been through an earlier energy efficiency initiative have seen an average reduction in energy usage of 17 per cent.
